Optimizing Server Performance

Server config and general tuning to cut lag without adding resources.

Lag is not always about RAM. Most of it can be reduced with the right config.

Lower view-distance

In server.properties, set view-distance=6 to 8. Loosening the chunk-load load is the fastest way to cut lag.

Limit entities

  • Reduce over-spawning passive/aggressive mobs via plugin config.
  • Cap dropped items and armor stands in busy areas.

Use modern server software

Paper or Purpur is more efficient than vanilla. Many optimizations are built in without changing gameplay.

Restart schedule

Regular restarts (say every 6–12 hours) clear memory leaks. Set them from the panel.

Watch the CPU and RAM graphs in the panel. If both stay pinned, it's time to upgrade.

Heavy plugins

Audit your plugins; remove unused ones. A single heavy plugin can drag the whole server's TPS down.
